이게 대체 무슨 말일까요? (설명은 아래 본문에)...

0…엊그제 저희 막내딸이 첫아기를 낳았습니다.

그야말로 "This calls for a celebration". 이거 축하할 일이지요.

한편, 저로서는 "Congratulations on becoming a grandfather"

(할아버지가 되심을 축하합니다)란 인사말을 듣겠지요.

(이미 두 손주가 있지만).

0…이와 관련해 오늘은 다소 어려운 표현을 알아봅니다.

1,in order 관련 표현들.

(~에 알맞은)

"I hear congratulations are in order"

(축하할 일이 있다면서요?)

"Yeah. my younger daughter gave birth to a son, and I became a grandpa"

(네, 우리 작은딸이 아들을 낳았고 저는 할아버지가 됐어요)

*in order: 적법한, 제대로 된, (말·행동 등이 특정 상황에) 알맞은

*It's about time 뒤에는 시제를 주로 과거형(made)으로 씀.
