PETITION FOR THE CANADIAN PATROL SUBMARINE PROJECT (CPSP)

SUBJECT: Formal Support from the Korean-Canadian Community for the Selection of South Korean Submarines for the CPSP
We, the undersigned representatives of the major Korean-Canadian organizations and the broader community, formally submit this petition to express our resolute support for the selection of South Korea (Hanwha Ocean) as the strategic partner for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).
This selection transcends national defense; it is a strategic economic engine that will secure the future of Ontario’s industrial landscape.
1. Revitalizing Ontario’s Automotive Sector through Hydrogen Innovation
The procurement of South Korean submarines is directly linked to a monumental industrial commitment: the establishment of a Hyundai Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle manufacturing infrastructure in Ontario.
Economic Prosperity: This initiative will inject new life into Ontario’s automotive industry, which is currently facing structural challenges.
Job Creation: By transitioning to the hydrogen economy, we will create thousands of high-tech manufacturing jobs, benefiting not only the Korean-Canadian community but all residents of Ontario.
Global Leadership: This partnership will position Ontario as the premier hydrogen hub of North America, ensuring long-term economic growth and sustainability.
2. Superior Technology and Reliable Delivery
South Korea is the only partner capable of delivering the world’s most advanced non-nuclear submarines within Canada's required timeline. Hanwha Ocean’s proven track record of “on-time, on-budget” delivery ensures that Canada’s maritime sovereignty is protected without delay or fiscal overruns.
3. A Strengthening Strategic Alliance
As Canada implements its Indo-Pacific Strategy, partnering with South Korea—a key democratic ally—will fortify our security and trade ties.
CONCLUSION We strongly urge the Federal and Provincial governments to choose the path of security and prosperity. Selecting South Korea for the CPSP is a commitment to a stronger Canadian Navy and a thriving, high-tech Ontario economy.
